Liten's research teams work across a vast portfolio of renewable energy technologies. Cutting-edge photovoltaic technologies are developed at INES, the French National centre for solar research and R&D with Hydrogen and Biomass activities being managed from the LITEN's main site in Grenoble, Rhone-Alpes.

OPV (Organic Photovoltaic) technology is
enabling to produce, using roll-to-roll printing processes, low-cost,
lightweight, semitransparent and flexible solar cells, paving the road towards
large scale integration of solar technologies in building facades, windows, IoT
devices or indoor applications.
Innovations in Organic Photovoltaic
technologies at the material level are still needed to further improve PV
modules efficiency, lower their cost and ease their integration in various
applications, enabling the large scale integration of PV. In order to achieve
targets set by Paris Agreement and prevent global warming, diverse PV
technologies will be needed to fit each applications, and pushing forward
technological innovations, but also transferring them to industry, are key
matters to realize this.
The association between CEA, a major
European technological research public organization with proven expertise and
technologies on OPV (Organic Photovoltaic), and TOYOBO, a Japanese manufacturer
of high-function products such as films, automotive products, environment
related products, bioproducts and pharmaceuticals, will enable to develop
innovative OPV cells and modules integrating TOYOBO materials.
Through this collaboration, both parties
are aiming to develop OPV modules showing better cost-performance ratio
compared to other PV technologies for indoor applications. Once optimized with
TOYOBO material, this technology could be mass-produced by a tiers module
manufacturer for Asia or European market.
CEA is a French government-funded technological research organisation in four main areas: low-carbon energies, defense and security, information technologies and health technologies. A prominent player in the European Research Area, it is involved in setting up collaborative projects with many partners around the world.
